Thailand targets 17 gold medals for Asian Games 2018

BANGKOK, July 18 (TNA) -- Thailand aims higher for the 18th Asian Games 2018 in Indonesia hoping to clinch 17 gold medals. At Meet the Press event held by a sport photographer association on Tuesday, Sport Authority of Thailand (SAT) announced the target for Thailand team of 830 athletes participating in the 18th Asian Games. SAT’s Director of Sports Science Department Somporn Wannasiri said from consultations with sport associations the SAT set a target for Thai athletes to win 17 gold, 15 silver and 28 bronze medals at the Games. Thailand won 12 gold medals in the previous Asian Games. Thai Cycling Association expects at least one medal from the 17th Asian Game gold medalist Jutathip Maneephan. Technical head of the Association Nathapong Lohitnavy said Jutathip would switch from road cycling to track cycling. Asian Games will be held from August 18 to September 2 in two cities: Jakarta and Palembang. (TNA)
