Thailand wins six golds from 1st WTF World Taekwondo Beach Championships
BANGKOK, May 8 (TNA) – Thai Prime Minister Gen Prayut Chan-o-cha praised Thai Taekwondo team, finishing first place in the first WTF Taekwondo Beach Championships, held in Rhodes Island, Greece, said government spokesman Sansern Kaewkamnerd.
Thai team grabbed six gold medals, two silver medals and two bronze medals during the two-day competition on May 5-6.
Gen Prayut also lauded coaches and the Taekwondo Association of Thailand for their good performance. Apart from finishing first place, Penkanya Phiasankiattikun alone took home three golds, said Lt Gen Sansern.
The World Taekwondo Federation also applauded Thai sportspeople for showing their strength in the Recognized Poomsae categories. On the second day, Thailand led in medals by winning five golds.
South Korea's team showed surprising results by winning gold, silver, and bronzes in the two of the newly introduced divisions: Spinning Kick in Technical Breaking category and Freestyle Dynamic Kicks & Breaking Challenge.
Covered in total of 25 categories, 26 countries participated in the 1st WTF World Taekwondo Beach Championships. The top five national places went to Thailand, Korea, Turkey, Vietnam, and China. (TNA)
