Thailand's ancient city to put utility wires underground

AYUTTHAYA, THAILAND, February 21 (TNA) - The government has allocated a budget of almost 300 million baht to Ayutthaya, Thailand’s old capital city, to support its plan on relocating overhead utility wires underground in order to improve the city’s scenery. Ayutthaya Governor Suchin Chaichumsak told journalists of the plan on Tuesday, pointing out that the existing overhead power and telecommunications wires, as well as cables and optical fibre lines appear to be an eyesore, blocking the scenic view of the ancient city. The governor said that the implementation of the plan has been set during April-September 2017, the end of the present 2017 fiscal year, starting from Ayutthaya's Historical Park, followed by the City Island and the Provincial Government Center.
