Thailand's coins of new reign to be soon introduced
BANGKOK, October 17 (TNA) - The Treasury Department, under the Thai Ministry of Finance, will introduce a series of coins of the present King Rama X Reign to be circulated in the Thai economy in the coming months.
Treasury Department Director-General Patchara Anuntasilpa told journalists of the update on October 16, explaining that His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun has approved his department's plan on the production of the new coins to be circulated for domestic use and his department is seeking the Thai Cabinet's approval of issuing a new ministerial regulation on the detailed characteristics of the new coins of all types and their denominated values to comply with the Thai Currency Law B.E. 2501.
Earlier, press reports said the new coins will be introduced with their denominated values of ten, five, two and one baht, as well as 50 satang, 25 satang, 10 satang, 5 satang and 1 satang respectively.
The senior official clarified, meanwhile, that the detailed characteristics of commemorative coins to be issued on the auspicious occasion of the Coronation of His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun have not yet been approved by concerned panels and, finally, by the Thai Ministry of Finance.
The senior official noted, however, that His Majesty King Maha Vajiralongkorn Bodindradebayavarangkun has already approved his royal portrait to be imprinted on the commemorative coins. (TNA)
