Thailand's PWDs Day 2012 set on Nov 10

BANGKOK, November 2 (TNA) - The National Council on Social Welfare of Thailand (NCSWT) will organize the National Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) Day 2012, the 27th of its kind so far, in Bangkok on November 10, in which local PWDs' potential in various aspects will be showcased. The annual event's chief organizer, General Singha Saowapab, told journalists that the one-day event is aimed at providing a platform for PWDs throughout Thailand to enjoy their meeting-up, form their networks, show their potential in various aspects, namely through their performances on the stage and products they made and put on sale, and access to official registrations for their welfare provided by the government, as well as medical treatments and rehabilitation services specially prepared for them. General Singha said that the artificial Dok Kaew Kalaya flower, named by late Her Royal Highness Princess Galyani Vadhana as the symbolic reference of Thai PWDs and made by local PWDs, will also be on display and sale at the event, with its proceeds to go to the Dok Kaew Kalaya Fund, set up to sponsor development projects of Thai PWDs across the country. According to the chief organizer, awards will also be presented, as previous years, to 16 Thai PWDs, selected from 202 outstanding individuals with disabilities nationwide, who are considered models for other PWDs in terms of their independent living status and ability to earn their own living and even to support their families, while contributing to the society as well. The 27th Thai PWDs Day will be held at Suan Amporn, a royal park near the Royal Plaza in the heart of Bangkok, from 8am to 4pm, during which visitors from all walks of life are also welcome without any entry toll.
