Toll Roads Across Java Will be Connected by 2018: President

Pasuruan, East Java, June 12 (Antara) -- The government is optimistic that toll roads across Java will be connected by 2018, following the completion of a part of its toll road development projects this year. President Joko Widodo said here on Friday that he had coordinated with the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing as well as the State Enterprises Ministry to ensure that they meet the target. "This morning, they assured me that they were ready to ensure that all toll roads in Java will be connected by 2018," he stated while opening the Gempol-Pandaan toll road in East Java. He added that he was glad the project, which involves several companies, was completed. Among these companies, the state and regional government are shareholders of the firm that operates the road. "It is hoped that the new road will increase people's productivity and boost economic growth," he remarked. In addition, the president emphasized that to boost economic growth, political and security stability and infrastructural development are crucial. "These are fundamental, and it is hoped that they can be implemented fast to ensure speedy movement of people and goods," the head of state noted. The Gempol-Pandaan toll road is operated by PT Jasamarga Pandaan, which has been given concession for 37 years, as entailed in the work order issued on October 3, 2012.
