Toys seized, confiscated

Manama, Jan. 18 (BNA): The Directorate of Standards and Metrology at the Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Tourism seized and confiscated 11,055 toys that double in size when absorbed into water, which can cause severe injury when children swallow them. The Director of Standardization and Metrology Mrs. Mona Alalawi indicated that some samples were withdrawn for examination and proved that they do not match the GCC regulations for children toys. She added that an inspection campaign was carried out to control these products from the main suppliers. The campaign included 50 shops in various governorate in the Kingdom. The directorate confiscated the quantities offered for sale and in stocks which amounted 11,055 products. The owners of these shops were also stressed on the need to imports safety games by requesting the manufacturer to provide proof of compliance with GCC toys regulation. The Directorate of Standards and Metrology calls on all traders to ensure that imported toys are in accordance with the requirements and sold in the places designated for games to prevent the children from considering them as edible sweets.
