Tremor in Myanmar does not affect Thailand
LAMPANG, March 15 (TNA) -- Director of Mineral Resource Office in Lampang, in charge of overseeing 17 provinces in the northern region, Tinnakorn Thathong said a follow up on the earthquakes in both Thailand itself and in neighbouring countries, a strong fault line in Myanmar has been found to move more frequently.
He said between March 12-14, the line has showed the strongest movements, where Myanmar had already experienced up to 12 tremors with strength ranging between 2.4-5.6 Richter scale.
He noted that the country has seen a 5.6 magnitude earthquake on March 13, with the epicentre in Myanmar, which is located about 261 km to southwestern direction of Thailand's Sob Moei district in Mae Hong Sorn province.
The northern region of Thailand was not affected by the quake at all, he said.
Nonetheless, he said, earthquake is a natural disaster and could not be precisely predicted and so preparations must be readied at all times. (TNA)
