Turkish FM addresses international mediation conference in Istanbul
ISTANBUL (A.A) - Turkish foreign minister on Saturday addressed an international mediation conference held in Istanbul.
"The favorable outcome of mediation is success. Most of the mediators want to win the Nobel Peace Prize but pursuit of success could also lead one to failure and white lies which could hamper one's credibility as a mediator," Ahmet Davutoglu told the conference.
Davutoglu said a mediator should be defending values instead of specific interests and show sides of the mediation that you share common values with them.
Davutoglu said Istanbul was the right place to hold an international conference on mediation, adding that Turkey had assumed a policy favoring diplomatic solution to international and domestic disputes in its region which he said was characterized by a number of "geopolitical earthquakes" after the end of Cold War.
"A mediator has to patient. We need to agree with all sides that we are ready to sit around the same table. That was what we have done in indirect talks between Israel and Syria when we spent three years for making the ground ready for the talks," Davutoglu said.
