Turkish PM warns Syrian leader: Yours is dead-end street

ANKARA (A.A) - Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan warned the Syrian President Bashar al-Assad by saying "yours is a dead-end street" on Tuesday. Speaking at a group meeting of his Justice and Development (AK) Party in the Turkish Parliament in Ankara on Tuesday, Erdogan said that he advised al-Assad to turn back before more bloodshed takes place in Syria and more innocent individuals get killed. We are making efforts to facilitate peace and stability in Syria. We will begin cooperating with countries who will opt to be on the side of the Syrian people and not the Syrian administration and we will begin a new initiative on the matter. We will continue to support the initiatives of the Arab League, Erdogan stressed. Erdogan said that those responsible for the incidents in Homs, Syria would pay the price sooner or later. Erdogan said that "Syria was not any ordinary neighbor". The people of Syria are not an ordinary people for Turkey. You can see traces of a common history in Syria in every square meter of land. The Syrians are our brothers and sisters. We can not remain silent over the incidents taking place in Syria. We can not turn our back to the people of Syria, Erdogan underlined. Touching on the process at the United Nations on Syria, Erdogan said that the process at the UN was a total failure on the part of the civilized world. The UN Security Council, once again, has taken as prisoner the conscience of the international community. It is unacceptable to see any state giving a license to kill to a tyrant. It would not be approved by humanity, Erdogan also said. Meanwhile, asked after the group meeting about the initiatives to be taken on the side of the Syrian people, Prime Minister Erdogan said that Turkey would primarily work with the Arab League and then the West. We are working on the issue. As developments take place, you (journalists) will be able to follow them, Erdogan underlined.
