Turkmen president: Transit of energy resources must not depend on spontaneous problems in world

Turkmenistan, Ashgabat, May 23 / Trend H. Hasanov / Turkmen President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov draws attention to the fact that the transit of energy resources must be independent of spontaneously occurring political, economic and other problems in the world," Turkmen Dovlet Khabarlary said today. According to the information, Turkmenistan's priority is to establish an international system of cooperation given the mutual interests and based on the economic viability and healthy competition. It has been recently stressed at a special meeting of the Gas Conference in Ashgabat. The information is devoted to the results of the Ashgabat Gas Conference, which attracted 500 participants, including representatives of government agencies, 150 world oil and gas companies from more than 30 countries. Among the speakers were the representatives of Chevron, Exxon-Mobil, BP, Shell, Hyundai Engineering, Pietro Fiorentini, Honeywell, Halliburton, СРЕСС and others. UN News Center has recently reported that the delegates of the 67th session of the UN General Assembly on Turkmenistan's initiative adopted a resolution on the transit of energy resources. More than 70 countries were the co-authors of the document. Ashgabat proposed to hold the international meeting of experts on the topic in early 2014. Turkmenistan is one of the key players in the gas market in the Caspian region and Central Asia. At present, China, Iran and Russia use Turkmen gas. Turkmenistan ranks fourth in the world on natural gas reserves. It is looking for new markets in Europe and South Asia. Turkmen Dovlet Khabarlary stressed that Turkmenistan stands for broad international cooperation in finding the ways to ensure reliable transportation of energy resources to the international markets through pipelines and using other transportation systems. According to the information, the coordinated actions of producing countries, transit countries and consumer countries, capable of optimizing the economic development, including the creation of the infrastructure required for energy resources transportation are necessary in these circumstances. This can be done on the basis of five major components, namely, the legal basis, the resource base, environmental safety, cost-based tariffs and availability of long-term contracts for the supply and transportation. "Turkmenistan attaches great importance to the development of new gas transmission networks and systems of underground gas storage facilities and will continue to consider joint projects of natural gas transportation," Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper said.
