Two defendants jailed for defaming sect

Manama, May 8 (BNA): The Lower Criminal Court today sentenced two defendants to one year in jail for defaming a sect and committing immoral acts. Prosecutor Abdullah Al Thawadi said that the court also ordered the confiscation of the convicts' mobile phones. The convicts appeared in a video recording in which they defamed a sect and made indecent gestures, which prompted the Directorate of Anti-corruption and Economic and Electronic Security to alert the Public Prosecution. Al Thawadi said that the two defendants were identified, arrested and searched under a warrant issued by the Public Prosecution. The Public Prosecution confronted them with the video recording, during their questioning, and ordered them in custody pending trial at the Lower Criminal Court.
