UAE has provided Dh430m in aid for Yemen in 2015, says Micad

ABU DHABI, 17 JULY 2015 (WAM): The Ministry of International Cooperation and Development (MICAD) Thursday announced that the UAE's total humanitarian aid for Yemen in 2015 stood at Dh430, including Dh190 in fuel and electricity aid, Dh110 million in food aid, Dh80 million in medical supplies, Dh30 million in assistance for providing water and sewage services, and Dh20 million in various other forms of relief aid. MICAD revealed the figures in a new report and said the aid was part of the UAE's response to Yemen's humanitarian situation resulting from the political turmoil. The UAE humanitarian aid for Yemen was delivered, on the directives of the UAE leadership, by the Emirates Red Crescent, the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, the Zayed Foundation for Charitable and Humanitarian Works, the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Charity and Humanitarian Establishment, Sheikh Sultan bin Khalifa Al Nahyan Humanitarian & Scientific Foundation, the UAE Suqia Water Aid Foundation, the Al Rahmah Charity and the Sharjah Charity House. In a statement about the announcement, H.H. Sheikh Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Presidential Affairs, said, "The country's wise leadership, namely President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, spare no effort to extend a helping hand to all people affected by humanitarian crises." "The UAE was among the first countries to provide all types of relief aid to the brotherly Yemeni people through effective coordination and partnership with Saudi Arabia." He stressed that these efforts are in line with the UAE's role in the Saudi-led Arab coalition seeking to do justice to the Yemeni people suffering at the hands of the Houthis and their partners seeking to control Yemen. H.H. Sheikh Mansour added that the UAE is renewing its regional humanitarian efforts, and that its humanitarian agencies acted on directives from His Highness Sheikh Khalifa to extend a helping hand to affected Yemeni brothers, set up humanitarian land, sea and air bridges and faced military risks as the infighting continues, to deliver humanitarian aid totalling Dh430 million. Sheikh Mansour thanked Saudi Arabia for providing facilities to ensure the delivery of the UAE humanitarian aid to the victims of political turmoil in Yemen. Sheikha Lubna bint Khalid Al Qasimi, Minister of International Cooperation and Development and head of the National Committee for the Coordination of Foreign Aid, said the directives of the country's top leaders provided solid foundations for humanitarian intervention and response in all types of the scenarios of humanitarian crises resulting from wars, military conflicts and natural disasters. She noted that rapid humanitarian response tops the agenda of the UAE foreign humanitarian aid.– Emirates News Agency, WAM - http://www.wam.ae/en/news/emirates/1395283375435.html
