UN humanitarian affairs envoy honoured
Manama, Nov. 1 (BNA): President of International Islamic Charitable Organization Dr. Abdullah Al-Matouq received Shaikh Nasser's prize for humanitarian works, in recognition of his big efforts in supporting charitable and humanitarian action across the globe.
This came on Monday during the inauguration of the Seventh Annual Conference for Effective Partnerships and Information Sharing For Better Humanitarian Action, in collaboration with the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) and other charities, according to Kuwait News Agency (KUNA).
Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, representative of HM the King of Bahrain for charitable works and youth affairs, delivered the prize provided by Bahrain's Royal Charity Organization to Al-Maatouq, Kuwait's Amiri Diwan Advisor and UN Secretary-General's Envoy for Humanitarian Affairs.
On behalf of UN Secretary General, UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Stephen O'Brien honoured Al-Maatouq for his big role played toward the Syrian crisis.
The prize is granted to figures and institutions providing humanitarian and charitable services for needy people.
Up to 250 officials working in humanitarian action, and charitable and relief institutions are taking part in the two-day event.
The congress aims to boost information sharing and partnerships amongst humanitarian organizations in the Middle East region as well as share initiatives and ideas regarding settling disputes, and empowering youth and females, KUNA reported.
