UN praises Bahrain's humanitarian efforts

Manama, Mar. 12 (BNA): The United Nations has commended the humanitarian efforts undertaken by the Kingdom of Bahrain to support people affected by wars and natural disasters around the world. It praised the directives of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa to the Royal Humanitarian Foundation (RHF), led by His Highness Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa, HM the King’s Personal Representative for Humanitarian Work and Youth Affairs, to provide relief aid to the civilian refugees fleeing Ukraine. The relief aid, worth $ 1 million, is in response to an urgent call by the UN to fund the UN humanitarian operations in Ukraine. The Kingdom of Bahrain is the first Gulf country to dispatch the relief aid to the Ukrainian refugees, which reflects the kingdom’s humanitarian role and its support to affected people in the world based on the principle of humanitarian solidarity. The UN has issued a statement distributed on all news agencies and humanitarian institutions in which it praised the humanitarian partnership and relief work carried out by the Kingdom of Bahrain, represented by RHF, in cooperation with the UN. The international organization hailed Bahrain’s rapid response to its urgent call to fund its humanitarian operations in Ukraine and quickly assist the Ukrainian refugees without discrimination, in implementation of the directives of His Majesty the King. In this regard, Advisor to the High Commissioner, the Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) to the Gulf States, Khalid Khalifa, said: "We are proud of our partnership with the foundation and grateful for its pioneering role as the first supporter of the emergency response in Ukraine from the Gulf region.” He appreciated the directives of HM the King to respond to the UN call to support the refugees, praising the leadership of HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa of the humanitarian work carried out by RHF. For his part, RHF Secretary General, Dr. Mustafa Sayed, commended the royal initiatives to provide relief aid to the affected people across the world. He praised the support accorded to the foundation by the government led by His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince and Prime Minister. He also lauded the efforts of HH Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa in leading the foundation’s humanitarian work.
