Undersecretary receives Socotra governo

Manama, July 5 (BNA) : Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for International Affairs Dr. Shaikh Abdullah bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, received in his office at the Ministry's General Court the Governor of the Socotra Archipelago in the Republic of Yemen, Ramzi Mahrous, Assistant Governor for Environment and Development Affairs, Abduljameel Abdulla, and Head of the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA), Abdul Qader Faraz.
The meeting was held on the sidelines of the participation of the Yemeni delegation in the 42nd Session of the World Heritage Committee meetings, held in the Kingdom of Bahrain from 24th of June to the 4th of July.
Dr. Shaikh Abdullah welcomed the Yemeni delegation and reviewed with them ways of consolidating joint cooperation ties, particularly in the fields of environment and natural life, lauding Socotra’s distinctive touristic and environmental attractions.
He stressed the inevitability of concerted efforts for the sake of a safe, secure and sustainable global environment, pointing out in this context to the excellent activities and pioneering initiatives of the Supreme Council for Environment of the Kingdom of Bahrain, chaired by His Highness Shaikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al Khalifa.
He said the council, through meticulous job, stands as a regional model to emulate in raising local environment standards and preserving its resources within the framework of an integrated management of ecosystems and natural resources for sustainable development in conformity with the goals of the Bahrain Economic Vision 2030.
Members of the Yemeni delegation extended their thanks and gratitude to the Kingdom of Bahrain for hosting the 42nd Session of the World Heritage Committee and praised the Kingdom's success in organising and managing such global meetings.
They also valued the vital role played by the Kingdom of Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and the UAE in supporting Socotra’s development projects and protecting the environmental aspects of the Yemeni archipelago.
The meeting was attended by the Ambassador of the Republic of Yemen to the Kingdom of Bahrain, Dr. Ali Hassan Al Ahmadi, Regional Director and Representative of the United Nations Environment Programme for West Asia (UNEP), Sami Dimassi, and United Nations Climate Change Programme Coordinator, Dr. Abdul Majid Haddad
