Unexploded bomb found in Thailand’s former battlefield
CHIANG RAI, Feb 26 (TNA) – An unexploded bomb has been found in a village in the northern province of Chiang Rai, which used to be a battlefield between the Thai army and communists a half-century ago.
The mountainous area was known as the “Doi Yao-Pa Mon” battlefield where the Thai armed forces fought with communist insurgents in 1967. The war between the two sides lasted until 1982 before it came to an end.
The 110-centimeter-long explosive device was discovered in Pan Din Thong village, Moo 12, Tueng district as the residents were clearing their land for home construction. They were shocked and quickly informed the local police of the discovery.
Following an initial investigation, the police confirmed that it was an unexploded artillery shell, so they sealed off the site in order to ensure public safety.
The Explosive Ordnance Disposal officers are on their way coming to dispose the old bomb. (TNA)
