University Graduates Need To Acquire Foreign Language Skill, Says Minister

KUALA LUMPUR, April 17 (Bernama) -- University graduates need to acquire a foreign language skill, to ensure they can effectively compete on the international job market, says Malaysian Minister of International Trade and Industry, Mustapa Mohamed. He said there were a lot of Malaysian companies operating in other countries and needed workers with a variety of skills. "We not only need to focus on producing and having a pool of highly skilled and knowledgeable talent, but also those with foreign language abilities. Today, several languages are being used on the international level. "Our students thus need to be skilled in foreign languages in respect of job opportunities both in Malaysia and overseas," he added. Mustapa was speaking to the media after officiating the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) Sector Focus Career Fair 2012 (SFCF 2012) here Tuesday. The SFCF 2012 is a three-day event organised by the Alumni and Career Services and the Industrial Link and Community Relations Divisions of IIUM in collaboration with Talent Corp Malaysia Bhd (TalentCorp). It is aimed at creating an awareness of career choices available, particularly in the engineering and finance related sectors. -- BERNAMA
