U.S. Trade Rep Ron Kirk Calls On Malaysian PM Najib

PUTRAJAYA, April 24 (Bernama) -- United States Trade Representative Ambassador Ron Kirk Tuesday called on Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak at his office here.
Kirk (second from left) said he had the opportunity to talk about matters of mutual interest to both Najib (second from right) and U.S. President Barack Obama.
“It is our joint desire to increase our trade bilaterally and also throughout the region, through negotiation on a trans-Pacific partnership," he told reporters.
Kirk said Najib had made a bold decision to incorporate the trans-Pacific partnership as part of a broader economic transformation to double Malaysia's personal income by 2020.
U.S. Ambassador to Malaysia Paul W. Jones (left) and former Malaysian ambassador to the U.S. Dr Jamaludin Jarjis (right) were present at the meeting.
"We expressed how we can continue to have Malaysia's leadership, not just in our bilateral relations but in our goal to try to complete the trans-Pacific partnership," he said.
Kirk said he thought that Obama and Najib had a strong personal relationship as they have met and work well together.
Kirk began his two-day working visit to Malaysia Monday. (photoBERNAMA)
