U.S. University Offers Malaysians Scholarships In Adelaide
From Neville D'Cruz
MELBOURNE, May 8 (Bernama) -- The prestigious Carnegie Mellon University's
Adelaide campus is offering four partial scholarships worth 50 per cent of
tuition fees of its masters programmes to Malaysians.
It will be under the Malaysia Australia Colombo Plan Commemoration (MACC)
scholarship programme which is spearheaded and coordinated by the Malaysian
Australian Alumni Council and supported by the Australian High Commission in
Kuala Lumpur.
"This is a fantastic opportunity for young Malaysians to study at an
American, internationally renowned research university," Darren Turner, MCU's
Adelaide Director of Management and Recruitment told Bernama.
He said CMU had already been working closely with the Public Services
Department of Malaysia (JPA) to provide education and training opportunities for
public servants to study for a master's degree programme in Australia.
Professor Terry F. Buss, CMU Executive Director and Distinguished Professor
of Public Policy, recently presented a seminar on "Public Service Management in
a Multicultural Environment" at the Razak School of Government in Kuala Lumpur.
The seminar presented a framework for successfully managing the public
sector in a multicultural environment from the perspective of policy-makers,
senior managers and public sector staff.
"The Razak School of Government's primary vision is to be a recognised
global and premier training and research institution for public sector
leadership in policy and service deliveries," CMU said in a statement.
"Through focused and advanced training designed exclusively for leaders from
the public and private sectors, our responsibility is to cultivate an
environment that nurtures world-class public sector leadership.
"The platform we offer for knowledge sharing and intellectual interaction
cultivates high performing public servants needed for Malaysia to achieve Vision
2020," CUM said.
Since opening in Adelaide five years ago, Adelaide CMU has had one student
from Malaysia -- Adilah Hudzari, of the Selangor State Government, who graduated
with a Master of Science in Public Policy and Management in 2010.
CMU Australia will take part in Postgradasia, an education exhibition
focusing on postgraduate study to be held in Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre on
May 26 and 27. CMU, an acclaimed American university, has campuses in
Pittsburgh, Washington DC, Silicon Valley and Doha.
