Voters Turnout Shows 17% Growth In Tehran, 13 % Nationwide

Tehran, March 5, IRNA – The figure on voters' turnout in parliamentary election released by the Interior Ministry indicated a 17 percent growth in Tehran constituency and a 13 percent growth nationwide.
Interior Minister Mostafa Mohammad Najjar told reporters that the 64.2 percent of the total eligible voters participated in elections nationwide compared with 51 percent in the previous parliamentary election, registering a 13 percent growth.
He said that in the previous parliamentary election, 30.22 percent of eligible voters in Tehran had gone to the polling stations, whereas, the turnout in the current parliamentary elections in Tehran constituency stands at 48 percent, indicating a 17 percent growth. Tehran constituency included Shemiranat, Shahr-e Rey and Islamshahr.
The Interior Ministry said that in the current (ninth) parliamentary election, 48 million people were eligible to vote including 3,960,000 young voters who became 18-year old on March 2./end
