WEST SUMATRA STEPS UP EFFORTS FOR TACKLING DRUG ABUSE

Padang, W Sumatra, Feb 28 (Antara) - The West Sumatra Police are making every effort to prevent drug abuse and the circulation of drugs in the province, according to local police Chief Brig. Gen. Bambang Sri Herwanto. "We are optimistic that efforts to combat drug abuse will become more effective," Bambang said on Saturday. He noted that in the efforts to prevent drug abuse and the circulation of drugs in the province, the local police will cooperate with all relevant parties to educate the public about the danger of using drugs. "We are going to cooperate with teachers, public figures, and the media to campaign against the dangers posed by drug use in our efforts to prevent the public, particularly the younger generation, from indulging in drug abuse," he remarked. Bambang also pointed out that by familiarizing itself with the dangers posed by drug use, the public is expected to become more aware of it and protect their families and children from indulging in drug abuse. He added that the police will continue to crack down on drug abusers. "Prevention against drug abuse does not mean that law enforcement against the violators will be ignored," Bambang noted.
