Women's Vote Will Influence US Presidential Election, Says Political Writer

KUALA LUMPUR, May 25 (Bernama) -- Women's vote is among the factors which will determine the successful candidate in the United States Presidential Election on Nov 6. US political writer David Yepsen, who is also director of the Paul Simon Public Policy Institute at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, reasoned this was because, the fairer sex constituted 53 per cent of the American voters. He said, based on current study, 60 per cent of women voters had expressed support for current US President Barack Obama, of the Democratic Party. This would pose a challenge to Mitt Romney of the Republican Party to convince women voters to support him, Yepsen said in a talk on 'Road to the White House: Candidates and Issues in 2012' here Thursday night. At the 57th US Presidential Election this year, Obama will run for a second and final term against his contender, Romney. On reporting for an election, Yepsen said reporters should not write on the same issues but needed to go out and meet the people to get their views and wishes for their candidates. This information could help the candidates fulfill public needs, he said, adding: "Get the voice of the voters, break away from following the same story." -- BERNAMA
