Workers in Taiwan told to stay away from drug

BANGKOK, Dec 11 (TNA) -- Thai workers in Taiwan are told to stay away from narcotics because the illegal practice would only pose negative impact on the kingdom image and on Thai workers wishing to work in that country in future, said Viwat Jiraphanvanich, deputy director-general of Ministry of Labour’s Employment Department. His warning was made after seven Thai workers were arrested in October in Taiwan’s Tainan City and accused of trafficking in amphetamine. Following a Taiwanese police interrogation, one of them was charged with drug trafficking, five were released later after they were found to be addicts only and the rest was innocent, said Mr Viwat. Because of the incident, Thai workers are asked to stay away from narcotics as they would not be allowed to return to work in that country again if they were arrested, he added. (TNA)
