Workshop on alternative penalties held

Manama, Oct.10 (BNA): A workshop focusing on alternative penalties was held today under the patronage of Public Prosecutor Dr. Ali bin Fadhl Al-Bouainain. Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) Vice Chairman, Court Cassation President Abdulla bin Hassan Al-Bouainain, Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ali Al-Khalifa, judges, prosecutors, officials representing the private sector and the National Institution of Human Rights. The Judicial and Legal Studies Institute (JLSI) hosted the workshop under the theme "Role of the Private Sector in implementing the alternative penalties and arrangements". Public Prosecutor Dr. Ali bin Fadhl Al-Bouainain stressed the importance of engaging the private sector in implementing the law on alternative penalties. He underline the royal directives to consolidate and expand of the law 18 of 2017 on the alternative penalties without prejudicing the rights of convicts or those affected by crimes. He underscored the importance of engaging the private sector in implementing the law, stressing its pivotal role in supporting Bahrain’s economic and social development process. Justice, Islamic Affairs and Endowments Minister Shaikh Khalid bin Ali Al-Khalifa stressed the need to implement the royal directives to ensure the efficient implementation of the law on alternative penalties, pointing out that the new scheme has so far benefited 1,022 convicts. He announced that the door had been opened to engage private sector establishments to contribute to community service and rehabilitation and training programmes for convicts benefiting from alternative penalties.
