Workshop To Create "Love To Walk" Culture
By Ahmad Fuad Yahya
JAKARTA, May 28 (Bernama) -- Several non-governmental organisations
conducted a workshop in Yogyakarta over the weekend to urge pedestrians to help
create a "love to walk" culture among the locals.
The workshop identified various problems regularly faced by pedestrians and
provided guidance on how to better enjoy walking through Yogyakarta's hustle and
bustle.
"The idea to have this workshop came up from our shared concern for
pedestrians and over the condition of pedestrian facilities in Yogyakarta,"
Kristanti Wisnu Aji Wardani, an activist of Jaladwara told the English daily,
The Jakarta Post.
The workshop, she said, would among other things map out the city's
sidewalks and guidance for pedestrians including tourists who would like to
enjoy different experiences of walking through Yogyakarta city.
Meanwhile, Armely Meiviana, an activist from Green Map Yogyakarta, said the
mapping would not always come in the form of printed maps but can take any form
of medium, ranging from articles or information about interesting objects in a
particular part of the city.
