Yemeni Nobel-laureate journalist: Yemen expects stronger support from Turkey

SANA'A (A.A)  - February 1, 2012 - Tawakkul Karman, first woman journalist winning Nobel Prize in Yemen and Arab geography, has said that Yemen was expecting stronger support from Turkey during its transition period. Karman, who spoke to AA on Wednesday, said that Turkish foreign policy should show more interest in Yemeni revolution, adding that Yemeni people loved Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan very much. People are expecting the word "Yemen" from Erdogan, said Karman, adding that they were ready to welcome Erdogan in Yemen with excitement. Noting that the whole world was surprised with the transition in Yemen, Karman said that although civilian armament was very high in Yemen, a big civil war like in Libya did not occur in Yemen, and this showed how peaceful Yemeni people were. Karman said that February 21 elections, which would end 33-year-old Saleh regime, would be a "democracy test" although there was a single candidate in the elections.
