IsDB to allocate USD 50.2 mln for reconstruction of Suusamyr-Talas-Taraz highway

Bishkek, May 15, 2023. / Kabar /. The delegation of Kyrgyzstan, headed by First Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Adylbek Kasymaliev and Minister of Finance of the Kyrgyz Republic Almaz Baketaev, met with President of the Islamic Development Bank (IsDB) Muhammad bin Sulaiman Al-Jasser as part of a working trip to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

The Ministry of Finance reported that the sides discussed topical issues of bilateral cooperation, the implementation of joint projects with the Islamic Development Bank in the territory of the Kyrgyz Republic, as well as issues of further expansion of cooperation and development of new projects that are priority for the development of the country.

The sides mutually stressed the need to develop and sign as soon as possible a Strategy for Cooperation between the Kyrgyz Republic and the IsDB for the medium term.

Particular attention was also paid to the discussion of the issue of reviewing projects transferred to the Islamic Development Bank during the Fourth Round Table with the participation of members of the Arab Coordination Group (August 3-4, 2022, Cholpon-Ata).

As a result of the meeting, the sides signed an Agreement between the Kyrgyz Republic and the IsDB on the project for the reconstruction of the Suusamyr - Talas - Taraz highway (phase IV, section 104.6 - 197.6 km). The amount of funds allocated for this project by the Islamic Development Bank will be 50.2 million US dollars.

The purpose of this project is to develop and improve the network of public roads of the Kyrgyz Republic, namely the improvement of one of the most important roads Suusamyr - Talas - Taraz, which provides an increase in international and interstate relations and trade, economic growth of the region and improves the quality of life and ensures road transport safety.

This road connects the Talas region with the Chui, Jalal-Abad and Osh regions of Kyrgyzstan, as well as with the southern regions of Kazakhstan.
