Japan to allocate 700 mln yen to improve road maintenance and pavement in Batken region

Bishkek, May 16, 2023. / Kabar /. President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Zhaparov signed the Law of the Kyrgyz Republic “On ratification of the Notes of Exchange between the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Government of Japan on the project “Improvement of equipment for the maintenance of roads and pavement in the Batken region” and the Grant Agreement between the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) under the project “Improvement of equipment for the maintenance of roads and pavement in Batken region”, signed on March 23, 2023 in Bishkek”.

The law was adopted by the Jogorku Kenesh on April 13, 2023.

The purpose of the Law is to carry out the procedure for ratifying the Notes of Exchange between the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Government of Japan on the project "Improvement of equipment for the maintenance of roads and pavement in the Batken region" and the Grant Agreement between the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on the project "Improvement equipment for maintenance of roads and pavement in Batken region”.

The grant agreement provides for strengthening the potential for emergency recovery and rehabilitation work using road maintenance and road construction equipment to maintain roads in the Batken region.

The project provides for the supply of 53 units of road maintenance and road construction machinery and equipment, including equipment for an asphalt concrete plant and a stone crusher.

The project “Improvement of equipment for road maintenance and pavement in Batken region” will cover roads and pavement, as well as highways of international importance in Batken region, which allows the timely deployment of modern road construction equipment, equipment and vehicles at construction sites for the construction, overhaul and current repairs, as well as the maintenance of public roads and highways of international importance in the Batken region.

Under the terms of the Grant Agreement, the Government of Japan provides a grant of 700 million Japanese yen (¥700,000,000) to the Cabinet of Ministers of the Kyrgyz Republic in accordance with Japanese law under the Exchange Notes and Grant Agreement.
