Kyrgyz film director Aktan Arym Kubat to head jury at Shanghai Film Festival

Bishkek, June 6, 2023. / Kabar /. Kyrgyz film director Aktan Arym Kubat will head the jury of the 25th Shanghai International Film Festival, film producer Altynai Koichumanova told.

China's largest and only international competitive feature film festival will take place from June 9 to 18.

Aktan Arym Kubat has been invited to serve as the president of the Jury of the Asian New Talents Competition, whose main task is to find new young talents in Asian cinema and promote the introduction of new films by young filmmakers into a global perspective.

The Kyrgyz film director will chair the panel, which includes producer Jojo Hui (Hong Kong, China), film director Kei Ishikawa (Japan), film director and screenwriter Lu Yang (China), film actress Yang Zishan (China), film actor Jackson Yi (China).

In the special non-competitive program of the festival, the film "Esimde" by Aktan Arym Kubat will be shown.

The competition will feature films by young directors from China, Japan, Kazakhstan, Laos, Uzbekistan and Iran. The winners will be announced at the Asian New Talent Awards Ceremony on June 15 and will be awarded the Golden Cup prizes in 6 categories.

The Shanghai Film Festival was established in 1993 and was accredited by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations in 1994. Thousands of films from hundreds of countries are registered to participate in the film festival every year.

The star guests of the festival were Tom Hiddleston, Jessica Chastain, Amanda Seyfried, Nicole Kidman, Susan Sarandon, Adrien Brody, Halle Berry, Edward Norton, Bradley Cooper, Natalie Portman, Michael Bay, Mark Wahlberg, Hugh Grant, Nicolas Cage, Jason Statham, Jesse Eisenberg, Meg Ryan, Sophie Marceau, Isabelle Huppert, Ian McKellen, Ewan McGregor, Nagasawa Masami, Jan Dong-gun, Fukuyama Masaharu, Hirosue Ryoko, Jackie Chan and many others.
