5 bridges and 70 km of capital roads to be built and repaired from Chinese grant

Bishkek, June 9, 2020. /Kabar/. The second phase of road reconstruction and repair financed by the People's Republic of China will soon begin in Bishkek, the press service of the capital's Mayor's Office reported. In last June, within the framework of state visit of Chinese leader Xi Jinping to Kyrgyzstan, protocol on realization of the "Development of the Bishkek street-road network" project through the Kyrgyz Foreign Ministry was signed. Chinese Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan Du Dewen noted this project will make Bishkek the best city in terms of road condition among the CIS (Commonwealth of Independence States) countries. "Work had not begun due to COVID-19 pandemic. A rebid among Chinese companies for road construction has been announced. Bid openings will take place on June 29. We expect to start the work already this year," the report says. Under the second phase of the project it is planned to build five bridges and repair 60 roads with a total length of more than 70 km. The repair will be carried out at the expense of grant funds of China.
