Gazan Journalist Takes Job In Conflict Zone In Stride
By Balqis Fadhullah Lim
SHAH ALAM (Selangor, Malaysia), Nov 30 (Bernama) -- Reporting in the
conflict zone of Gaza has not shaken Al-Aqsa TV journalist Yousef Ghaben.
Rather, the man has been emotionally stirred.
During the recent eight-day Israeli aggression, Yousef, 26, from Gaza,
dutifully carried out the task of reporting and documenting life-threatening
events from inside a hospital.
"I just focus on my work, my coverage. I felt similar to those victims, and
if I were to die on that day, it would have been okay.
"I assume that it is my destiny to die there," he said when relating his
experience during the conflict, to Bernama here on Thursday.
Yousef was flown in by a non-governmental organisation to Malaysia, to
deliver a talk, 'Journalism in War: The Gaza Experience', held at the Universiti
Selangor (Unisel) here.
He advised journalists going to the conflict zone to maintain vigilance,
while not compromising on concentration in discharging their duties.
“This does not mean that you do not take care of yourself, but you must keep
in mind that this job has also some dangers, so you have to be tolerant and be
strong,” he said.
To Yousef, a journalist’s job is "very honourable and unlike any other job,
it is rich in adventure".
