Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan agree on joint patrols in border villages

Bishkek, June 1, 2020 / Kabar /. As a result of negotiations between the local authorities of Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan over the conflict between residents of the village of Chechme, Kadamdzhay region of Batken Oblast and the village of Chashma, Sokh region, it was decided to conduct joint patrolling of the territory by law enforcement agencies of the two countries, Kyrgyz government’s press service reported.
“Since the occurrence of the incident, the Kyrgyz government has strengthened security measures and carried out general coordination to relieve tension on the ground and prevent the escalation of the conflict, and relevant instructions were given to local authorities and law enforcement agencies. The parties will continue negotiations on June 1,” the report said.
The explanatory work is being carried out among the population of these villages, aimed at maintaining public order and strengthening cross-border cooperation and good neighborliness. The local population left the scene of the conflict.
“The situation has stabilized, relatively tense,” the governments emphasized.
A conflict occurred on May 31 when residents of two villages cleared the spring together between residents of two border villages. There was a verbal skirmish and the villagers began throwing stones at each other, according to the State Border Service of Kyrgyzstan.
