Since outbreak of COVID-19, over 9 thsd citizens returned to Kyrgyzstan - Foreign Ministry

Bishkek, May 12, 2020 / Kabar/. Since the outbreak of COVID-19, more than 9 thousand citizens have been returned to Kyrgyzstan, the country’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Chingiz Aidarbekov told today at a briefing. “The President of the Kyrgyz Republic set the task of comprehensively facilitating the return of our citizens to their homeland from abroad. To accomplish this task, our diplomatic institutions work comprehensively and uninterruptedly. We work closely with diasporas, associations of compatriots abroad, foreign partners and pay special attention to appeals. The list of citizens wishing to return to the country is updated every time and transferred to the Republican headquarters for taking a decision,” he said. The minister noted that the funds allocated by the government to the Embassy of the Kyrgyz Republic in Russia, the Consulate General in Dubai solves the issues of paying for the accommodation of Kyrgyz citizens in hostels and provides them with food. Aidarbekov noted that since the outbreak of the novel coronavirus infection 9 thousand 196 citizens from 22 countries have been returned to the Kyrgyz Republic by air and ground transport. “Due to termination of regular flights, we are looking for various ways to return our citizens. In this regard, we are grateful to Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkey and other countries for their assistance in returning some of these citizens to the Kyrgyz Republic,” the minister emphasized.
