RWMF To Be Among World's Top 10 In Five Years' Time

KUCHING (Sarawak, Malaysia), July 13 (Bernama) -- The Sarawak Tourism Board (STB) aims to make the Rainforest World Music Festival (RWMF) a global top 10 music festival in five years' time, its chief executive officer Datuk Rashid Khan said Thursday. He said the festival which had already seen more than a decade of successful organisation had become another tourism product that could have a positive socio-economic impact on the state. "We want to make it (RWMF) a world-class, five-star event which gives sustainable and inclusive economic growth for social benefits," he said when briefing the media on the event at Santubong, about 35km from here. His remarks came on the eve of the 15th edition of the RWMF which will kick off on Friday at Santubong's Sarawak Cultural Village. Fifteen continental groups will be performing their musical diversities at the three-day festival, which will also feature side events that include world music workshops and Borneo diversity tours. Sarawak is one of the two Malaysian states on the island of Borneo. -- BERNAMA
