There are 330 snow leopards in Kyrgyzstan

Bishkek, Jan. 13, 2020 / Kabar /. 330 snow leopard individuals were recorded in Kyrgyzstan on the results of the accounting for 2019, Deputy Director of the Department of Biodiversity and Specially Protected Natural Areas of the State Agency for Environmental Protection and Forestry Kumar Mambetaliev told. Askar Davletbakov, Ph.D. in Biology, National Academy of Sciences, spoke about the methodology for counting the number of snow leopard individuals. Thus, according to him, he collected the data of hunting users, life expectancy. Experts also reported that there is a photo-record and a biological number of individuals. If 27 individuals were identified by photo counting, then biologically there are 16. In addition, according to them, camera traps can assist in counting, since the color of each snow leopard is unique, as well as fingerprints in humans.
