UN Secretary General’s Office expresses gratitude to Kyrgyz MFA for supporting call for global ceasefire in context of COVID-19 pandemic

Bishkek, May 20, 2020 / Kabar/. The Office of the Secretary-General of the United Nations expressed appreciation to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic for supporting the appeal of Secretary-General Antonio Guterres for a global ceasefire in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic reported. The message of the Office of the Head of the UN gratefully notes the continued commitment and support of the Kyrgyz Republic to the United Nations and international peace and security. At the same time, the Office of the UN Secretary General highly appreciated the efforts made by the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic to mitigate the socio-economic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic, especially in relation to the most vulnerable layers of the population, as well as its close cooperation with the UN country team led by the UN Resident Coordinator in the Kyrgyz Republic. It is noted that on April 30, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic issued a statement in response to the call of the UN Secretary General Antoni Guterres for a global ceasefire in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic. The statement said that the Kyrgyz Republic, as a peace-loving state, advocating compliance with the principles enshrined in the Charter of the United Nations and other international documents of the non-use of force and the threat of force, non-interference in internal affairs, respect for territorial integrity and the resolution of international disputes by peaceful means, supports the appeal of the General UN Secretary for a global ceasefire and enhanced international cooperation to successfully counter the COVID-19 pandemic.
