Measures Taken in DPRK to Minimize Damage to Crops

Pyongyang, May 20 (KCNA) -- Agricultural officials and workers in the DPRK are taking prearranged steps to minimize the damage by disastrous abnormal weather, true to the resolutions of the 7th Plenary Meeting of the 8th Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea.

After making the disastrous weather due to El Nino an established fact, the Agricultural Commission has worked out and issued necessary plans.

The agricultural guidance organs at all levels are substantially carrying out the preparations to minimize the damage to crops caused by severe heat and heavy rainfall.

Steps are taken to thoroughly grasp the situations of tide-water control dykes, reservoirs, irrigation canals and rivers and streams and to finish the construction projects with high-risk in the shortest time and to put the water conservation on a sci-tech basis.

Efforts are directed to taking the thoroughgoing agro-technological measure against typhoon, heavy flood and drought and to finding every possible ways to harvest earlier crops in time and prevent the decrease in yield.

Advance preparations are being made to ensure promptness of short- and medium-term forecasts and typhoon and flood forecasts and to normalize the commanding communication. -0-
