Noor Center Celebrates Tomorrow World Sight Day, White Cane Day
Doha, October 11 (QNA) - The Noor Center for persons with vision impairment, one of the Qatar Social Work Foundation centers, the Ministry of Social Development, and Family affiliates, will celebrate Thursday World Sight Day and White Cane Day at the Doha Festival City Mall.
The celebration aims to raise social awareness of the need to preserve sight and the importance of the white cane, as well as the valuable and noble significance of these occasions, serving as a purposeful joint stance highlighting the need to provide persons with vision impairment new gains.
During the celebration, attendees will learn about the importance of periodic vision examination and eye care, in addition to highlighting the most important developments related to persons with vision impairment, focusing on their energies, and learning about the best ways for a person with vision impairment to use a white cane and their five senses.
In this context, Noor Center Executive Director Mishaal Abdullah Al Nuaimi said that the Center provides full care to its members in the different aspects of life, in addition to preparing them for social integration, self-confidence, and moving independently.
Al Nuaimi added that the Noor Center has an optical clinic unit concerned with evaluating visual functions and determining the eligibility of people with visual impairment to receive the Center’s services according to international health regulations, in addition to determining a person's needs and conducting follow-ups with other classroom members.
He expressed the Noor Center's interest in training members on crucial skills that enable them to move independently and safely, making use of tools such as the white cane. He remarked that many places in Qatar such as playgrounds were equipped to support persons with visual impairment, as well as to raise social awareness of its important role.
Noor Center was established in 1998 with the aim of caring for +3 children with visual impairment. In, 2018, a decision was issued to transform the Center and make it offer exemplary services to people with visual impairments in the fields of education, rehabilitation, and community awareness of their issues and rights in order to have a more independent life and maximize their integration into society.
