326 MKO members to be resettled at Camp Liberty

TEHRAN, Dec. 27 (MNA) – Three hundred and twenty-six members of the terrorist Mojahedin Khalq Organization (MKO) were due to be transferred to Camp Liberty, a former U.S. military base near Baghdad International Airport on December 27, according to Buratha News. The transfer took place under an agreement recently signed between the United Nations and the Iraqi government that establishes a process to move the residents of Camp New Iraq, which was formerly known as Camp Ashraf, to a temporary location. U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had earlier said that the residents would be moved to Camp Liberty. At Camp Liberty, the UN refugee agency will interview the residents to determine their eligibility to get refugee status, before they can eventually be resettled in third countries, Clinton said. On December 21, Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki said that his government had agreed to extend a year-end deadline for closing Camp New Iraq by six months. About 3400 MKO members are based at the camp. According to Habilian Association website, 800 MKO members are scheduled to be moved to Camp Liberty in the first phase of the transfer, who are all among main members of the group. According to the website, MKO members are trying to use the opportunity to transfer main members to European countries, for most of whom indictments have been issued, under the pretext that they are injured or in a poor condition to help them escape. It is said that Maryam Rajavi, the MKO leader, agreed that MKO members leave Camp New Iraq for the mentioned reason. The report also said that certain European countries, including Switzerland, which had already agreed to give MKO members refuge, have refused to accept 11 allegedly injured members.
