Abhisit insists on paying tax correctly

BANGKOK, March 18 (TNA) -- Former prime minister Abhisit Vejjajiva reiterated Saturday that he has paid tax correctly, saying he is willing to be probed by the Office of the Auditor-General (OAG) and believes that the move would not impact the government attempts to heal social divisiveness in Thailand. Mr Abhisit’s comments were made after he is one of the 113 politicians to be probed on tax evasion after the OAG requested the Revenue Department to investigate tax payments by some politicians under the two previous governments of Mr Abhisit and Ms Yingluck Shinawatra. The list was later revised into 60 politicians. Insisting that there should not be a problem, Mr Abhisit said he is willing to cooperate on his tax payment investigation. Mr Abhisit said he had talked to some of politicians whose names appeared on the list for tax investigation and learned that they had provided additional information to the OAG. Mr Abhisit said the OAG probably noticed that tax payment by politicians was not accurate from their assets which increased after they submitted tax submission forms to the Office of the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC). Taxes on certain items could not be calculated correctly at the time tax forms are submitted to the NACC, he said. For example, land value can be increased year after year, but income on it does not.
