ABOUT WORKS OF FOREIGN MINISTRY IN 100 DAYS

Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia /MONTSAME/ In frames of the serial action called "The cabinet for reforms in 100 days", the Ministry of Foreign Affairs released on Monday a report on its works done last 100 days after establishment of the new cabinet. The report says, the President of Mongolia Ts.Elbegdorj took part in the 67th session of the United Nations General Assembly, the 16th Summit of the Non-Aligned Movement and the 9th ASEM Summit, and paid visits to Iran, Norway and Sweden with key purposes to ensure the foreign policy goals reflected in the cabinet's programme, to strengthen its position at international and regional arenas and to develop the cooperation. During these meetings and visits, the State Head has expressed his country's position on international relations urgent problems, and introduced to other countries goals of the foreign policy, its priorities and goals for the socio-economic sector. In the period, the President of Indonesia Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono; and a member of the State Council of the People's Republic of China Dai Bingguo paid official visits to Mongolia. The Minister of Foreign Affairs L.Bold paid working visits to Japan, Austria, Germany and Switzerland, introducing to the countries' authorities the cabinet's action programme and sharing views on the bilateral cooperation, economic collaboration and international affairs. Moreover, he participated in the World Economic Forum (WEF) held in Davos, Switzerland, and agreed with the WEF's leaders to organize the “Summer Davos” measure in September of the next year in Mongolia. This year Mongolia received visits of Bob Carr, the Australia's Minister of Foreign Affairs and a Senator; Erlan Abdyldaev, the Foreign Minister of Kyrgzstan; S.Aleinik, the Belarusian Vice Minister of Foreign Minister; V.Maiko, the Ukraine's Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs; Albert F. Del Rosario, the Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines; Bilahari Kausikan, the Permanent Secretary of the Singaporean Ministry of Foreign Affairs; Patti Londoño Jaramillo, the Peru's Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs; and the State Secretary of the Sweden's Foreign Ministry on Trade Affairs. They have shared views with Mongolian state and governmental leaders of Mongolia on the bilateral relations and cooperation. Consultative meetings of Foreign Ministries have been held with China, Belarus, Ukraine, Vietnam, Hungary, Russia and Israel. In a scope of the governmental purpose of establishing diplomatic relations with all members of the UN, Mongolia's parliament has ratified resolutions on establishment of diplomatic relations with Bhutan, Panama and Kenya, thus Mongolia has diplomatic relations with 164 countries. As chairing the Community of Democracies (CoD), Mongolia has organized the 5th meeting of the CoD's Leading Council, the unofficial meeting of Ministers of the Democratic Group of UN; and other meeting. For the time being, Mongolia intends to set up national organizing committees for the 7th Foreign Ministerial Conference of the CoD to be held in April of 2013 in Ulaanbaatar and its forums. Mongolia has issued a joint statement about its nuclear weapon-free status together with the Nuclear Weapon States (NWS)-USA, UK, China, Russia and France. By this statement, the NWS announced they appreciated the Mongolia's law on its nuclear weapon-free status. In frames of the preparation works of establishing a partnership and cooperation agreement with the European Union (EU), Mongolia is about to sign bilateral agreements with the EU countries. Moreover, Mongolia has become the 57th participating state of the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE). Under auspices of the Mongolian President, official talks between the governments of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and Japan has run in Mongolia. With a key purpose of normalizing the ties between the countries, the talks were held at an initiative of Mongolia, and Mongolia considers it contributed to improving the mutual understanding between N.Korea and Japan. Mongolia has started researching opportunity to open its embassies in Indonesia, the South Africa and Brazil, and consuls-in Pusan and Istanbul cities in order to make the protection of citizens' interests abroad more effective. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has organized some measures and events for propagandizing the 850th birth anniversary of Chingis Khaan in foreign countries, and co-organized an international scientific conference titled “Chingis Khaan and globalization” together with the Academy of Sciences and its Institute of Historical Sciences. It has attracted some 40 scientists from Russia, China, USA, Japan, Great Britain, Germany, the Republic of Korea, Bulgaria, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Hungary, Israel, Iran and India. In conjunction with changing of the external relations field, Mongolia plans to found Diplomacy Academy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs with aims to strengthen abilities of staffers at the foreign relations, to study experiences of senior diplomats and to systematically prepare diplomats to work in diplomatic missions.
