ADFD discusses enhancing bilateral cooperation with Ethiopia

ABU DHABI, 3rd January, 2016 (WAM)-- Mohammed Saif Al Suwaidi, Director General of Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD), welcomed a high-level government delegation from the Republic of Ethiopia at the Fund’s headquarters in Abu Dhabi. The two sides discussed ways of further enhancing bilateral cooperation between the UAE and Ethiopia in multiple fields. The Ethiopian delegation comprised Sufian Ahmed, Advisor to the Prime Minister, Ato Wondimu Tekle, Minister of Water and Electricity, Ahmed Shide, State Minister of Finance and Economic Affairs, and Abdul Qader Rasqwa, Ethiopian Ambassador to the UAE. As part of its core agenda, the meeting explored avenues of support for development projects in Ethiopia through collaboration between ADFD and the Government of Ethiopia particularly in the agriculture and mining sectors. Discussions also focused on the projects financed by ADFD in Ethiopia as well as the funding requests submitted to former for further study. Al Suwaidi thanked the delegation for its visit and keenness in promoting stronger synergies between the UAE and Ethiopia. He hoped that the delegation’s visit would further cement the excellent ties between both countries. He added that ADFD was committed to funding more development projects in Ethiopia provided such projects were aligned with the strategic objectives of ADFD. Established in 1971, Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) is an independent national entity affiliated to the Abu Dhabi government. To help emerging countries achieve sustainable development, the Fund offers concessionary loans, manages government grants through the direct supervision of such aid in project implementation and makes long-term investments and direct contributions.
