Al Murr affirms UAE's respect for good neighbourhood rules, resolving conflicts through peaceful means

Geneva: Mohammed Ahmed Al Murr, Speaker of Federal National Council (FNC), has affirmed that the UAE, since its establishment, has adopted a foreign policy based on certain principals such as tolerance and opening up to various peoples and cultures, since these values provide for the factors of stability, development and international peace. The FNC speaker added that this comes out of its conviction that achieving international peace is connected with the establishment of wide ties and communication with various countries of the world in accordance with rules of international law and mutual dialogue which promote understanding, friendship and rapprochement, in addition to respect of neighbourhood, countries' sovereignty and resolving conflicts through peaceful means.
''According to this principle, we issued our constant calls to resolve conflicts with Iran over its occupation of the three UAE Islands, Greater and Lesser Tunbs and Abu Musa through peaceful and negotiable means or international arbitration. This, in addition to keeping pace with the international developments and contributing effectively to international issues such as: renewable energy, climate change, protection of environment, combating diseases, inter-continental epidemics, humanitarian aid , human rights, women empowerment and paying attention to youth issues." Al Murr added During the participation of the UAE Parliamentary Division yesterday at the 130th Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, in Geneva, Al Murr, in a statement, pointed out that successes and achievements of the IPU have embodied the determination of the peoples of the world which emphasised that international peace and security represent the main message and target that we are working for and holding our joint conferences and activities.
He reiterated that democracy is one of the human values that we seek to promote through the enforcement of law and human rights according to the shared global standards.
''We can't talk about democracy and international peace without addressing major humanitarian issues where more than 2.1 billion people are living in severe poverty and about one billion people are suffering from hunger and malnutrition, in addition to the increase of risk in the international financial and economic imbalances, which deemed according to reports one of the most serious challenges in the way of the future of democracy and global peace," he said. – Emirates News Agency, WAM
