AMBASSADOR TAKES PART IN 6TH MEETING OF CD GOVERNING COUNCIL

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The Ambassador-at-Large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia S.Badral participated in the 6th Community of Democracies Governing Council Meeting December 10 in Washington, USA. Mr Badral addressed the meeting's opening, underlining that this event is coincided with the International Human Rights Day and the 23rd anniversary of the Mongolian democratic revolution. Then the gathered discussed a list of countries and international organizations that will take part in the 7th Ministerial Conference of the CoD, which will run next year in Mongolia, and shared views on its draft programme. The participants considered beforehand issues of converting the CoD into the organization with international status and a proposal of the CoD's chairman-state on gaining an observation right at the United Nations (UN), and then decided to discuss these issues again at the next meeting. The Vice Foreign Minister of Nigeria Ms Viola Adaku Onwuliri delivered a report on a political situation in Mali. Other reports on reflecting democratic issues in the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) were delivered by Ms Elizabeth Spehar, a Director for the Americas and Europe Division (AED) at the UN Politics Department, and by Mr Massimo Tommasoli, the Permanent Observer for International IDEA to the UN. The next meeting of the CoD Governing Council will take place in February of 2013 in Geneva, Switzerland. Apart of Mr Badral, Mongolia was represented at the meeting by D.Badamdash, an advisor to the Foreign Minister of Mongolia. B.Khuder
