AT ASEAN FOREIGN MINISTERS’ MEETING, FIRST TIME

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ A delegation of Mongolia headed by Mr L.Bold, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, took part in the 47th meeting of the ASEAN Foreign Ministers meeting which ran August 8-9 in Naypyidaw city, Myanmar. F9or the first time Mongolia has participated in the ASEAM Foreign Ministers’ meeting, as a special guest. As considered, this participation is to have a great importance for the regional cooperation and is the vital step for Mongolia in getting involved in the Asia-Pacific regional integration. On the first day of the action. Mr Bold called a press conference for the media at the ASEAN information center to give details about Mongolia’s policy on the international and regional cooperation as well as on policy and actions for joining the ASEAN Talks. At the press conference, Japan, South Korea, Singapore and Myanmar journalists asked the FM about Mongolia’s policy on the relations with its two neighbors, the "Ulaanbaatar Talks" initiative on security for Northeast Asia, and Mongolia’s ties with the ASEAN and other international organizations. After this, Mr Bold was received by Mr Thein Sein, the President of Myanmar. He also ran negotiations with his Myanmar counterpart Mr Wunna Maung Lwin. Then, a cooperation memorandum was established between the Foreign Ministries of Mongolia and Myanmar. Following this meeting, the Foreign Minister Bold is taking part in the East Asia Summit and in the Ministerial Meeting of the ASEAN Regional Forum, and is holding meetings with his counterparts of the ASEAN countries.
