Azerbaijan To Attend Tehran Confab On Syria : Diplomat

Baku, May 28, IRNA – Iranˈs Ambassador to Baku Mohsen Pakaeen announced here Tuesday that Azerbaijan would attend the ˈFriends of Syriaˈ meeting to be held in the Iranian capital Tehran on May 29. Speaking to IRNA, Pakaeen referred to Azerbaijan as one of the regional friends of Iran. He said that Tehran and Baku hold a common stand on the Syrian issue. According to Pakaeen, both capitals believe that the Syrian crisis should be settled through dialog and not military intervention. He added that representatives of 40 world countries and major international bodies would attend the Tehran meet which is to focus on finding a proper diplomatic way to resolve the ongoing Syrian crisis. The ambassador noted that the Tehran meeting would help reach a ˈSyrian-Syrian solution with no interference by those countries that are advocates of terrorism.ˈ As one of the non-permanent members of the United Nations Security Council, Azerbaijan has recently expanded its activities to have a stronger presence in international events which are related to the Middle East region, Pakaeen added./end
