Blix : Incentives Better Than Disincentives In Iran Case

Tehran, Sept 15, IRNA – Former head of UN atomic watchdog Hans Blix said Friday threatening is a US attitude in case of Iran nuclear program, but very often incentive are very better than disincentives. Speaking with Voice of Russia radio the Swede who led the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) for 16 years until 1997 said, 'The US must soften its tactics in dealing with Iran over its nuclear program if it wants the Islamic Republic to make concessions on uranium-enrichment work.' “There has been too much of a reliance on the whip rather than the carrot in the case of Iran,” The U.S. and Israel accuse Iran of covertly seeking atomic- weapons capabilities through activities including uranium enrichment, while the Persian Gulf nation has repeatedly stressed that its work is strictly intended to generate nuclear power for peaceful purposes. The US and the European Union have imposed dozens of sanctions on energy, trade, banking and shipping to induce Iran to suspend aspects of its atomic program. Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has said that the sanctions amount to a “full-scale, hidden psychological war” and that his government is studying ways to sidestep them./end
