Boroujerdi: Ties With UK Should Be Reduced

Tehran, Nov 27, IRNA – Head of National Security and Foreign Policy Commission of the Iranian parliament Alaeddin Boroujerdi said ties with Britain should be dropped to the level of charge d’affaires. Talking during the Sunday morning session of Majlis, he pointed to the destructive role of Britain in post-revolution plots in Iran. He also referred to London’s black record of performance in Iran both before and after the Islamic Revolution. He said Britain played a destructive role in incidents after the last presidential elections in Iran in 2009 by using special equipment in their Tehran embassy and also by airing programs in BBC radio and TV channels. Boroujerdi said that Majlis deputies, as representatives of the nation, could not bear to see the British ambassador retains his presence in Iran given the fact that London has always been in the front line of confrontations with Iran’s interests. Iranian parliament on Sunday will consider a plan to reduce ties with Britain. Once approved, the bill will give the Iranian Foreign Ministry two weeks to reduce political ties with the UK to the level of charge d’affaires. The bill requires that the level of economic and trade ties with Britain be dropped to minimum. According to the bill, any decision to raise the level of ties with Britain will require another bill to be ratified by the Iranian parliament. The bill also wants the Foreign Ministry to adopt similar positions against any other countries which might follow the same policies as the UK towards Iran./end
