Court accepts criminal charges against former general staff chief

ISTANBUL (A.A) - February 15, 2012 - Istanbul 13th High Criminal Court accepted the criminal charges prepared against former chief of general staff Gen. Ilker Basbug. The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office had prepared the criminal charges against retired Gen. Basbug on February 2. The criminal charges on Basbug had been sent to the Istanbul 13th High Criminal Court so that the Basbug case got attached to the case on "Action Plan Against Reactionary Forces". Ilker Basbug faces charges of leading an organization and attempting to overthrow the Turkish government by using force. The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor's Office demands that Basbug is given a sentence of life in prison. Ilker Basbug was appointed as the Chief of General Staff in 2008. He retired in August 2010.
